Creating pathways to self-reliance through entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital innovation.
Activity Overview
The Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), through the Chaguo Langu Haki Yangu (CLHY) Programme and with support from development partners, implemented a high-impact financial and digital literacy training in Kahama District from 23rd–24th March 2026.
The initiative targeted 165 Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW)—including young women with disabilities—who had graduated from vocational training since 2022. Participants were drawn from eight wards: Nyasubi, Nyandekwa, Kilago, Kinaga, Mhongolo, Mhungula, Nyahanga, and Kagongwa .
The training aimed to strengthen economic capacity, promote self-reliance, and enhance access to livelihood opportunities through practical skills in financial management, entrepreneurship, and digital engagement.
Objectives of the Training
The activity was designed to achieve the following:
- Strengthen financial literacy through budgeting, saving, and expenditure tracking
- Enhance entrepreneurial capacity and business development skills
- Promote digital inclusion for accessing and expanding economic opportunities
- Support informed decision-making and sustainable income generation
- Empower AGYW to overcome socio-economic challenges such as GBV, child marriage, and FGM
Key Areas of Capacity Building
Participants were equipped with practical, market-driven skills, including:
- Identification of viable business opportunities within local communities
- Development of innovative and competitive business ideas
- Understanding of customer needs, market demand, and pricing strategies
- Application of marketing principles (4Ps) for business growth
- Use of digital platforms (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) for promotion
- Financial management skills including profit allocation and reinvestment
- Development and presentation of practical business plans

- 165 AGYW successfully trained, with strong participation and engagement
- Improved financial literacy, including budgeting and income management
- Enhanced entrepreneurial skills, with participants developing viable business plans
- Increased digital awareness, enabling participants to leverage online platforms for business growth
- Strengthening customer care and communication skills, improving business sustainability
- Shift in mindset toward self-employment, promoting independence and initiative
- Inclusive participation, ensuring equal access for AGYW with disabilities
This transformative initiative equipped participants with practical, life-changing skills in financial management, entrepreneurship, business innovation, and digital engagement, enabling them to build sustainable businesses, access new opportunities, and strengthen their economic independence.
Beyond skills development, the programme provided a platform to evaluate and strengthen existing economic groups, assess the impact of startup support, and highlight how economic empowerment is a powerful tool in combating GBV, child marriage, and FGM.
Using participatory, inclusive, and hands-on learning approaches, the training fostered confidence, innovation, and peer collaboration, ensuring that every participant could translate knowledge into real-world impact.
