Re-Think and Re-Energize: Strengthening Feminist Movements Through Connection and Care

WiLDAF), in collaboration with Raising Voices  Uganda, convened the second round of the Re-Think and Re-Energize (R&R) session on 11th–12th July at the White Sand Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

Building on the learning, reflections, and solidarity fostered during the first session, this convening brought together feminist activists and practitioners working to prevent violence against women (VAW) across the region. The session served as an important space to deepen collaboration, strengthen feminist leadership, and renew collective energy within the movement.

The Role of the Prevention Network

As part of the broader feminist ecosystem, the Prevention Network continues to play a vital role in connecting activists, organizations, and advocates working toward the shared goal of ending violence against women.

Through platforms for exchange, collective learning, and joint action, the Prevention Network helps ensure that feminist movements remain vibrant, coordinated, and resilient. The R&R session reaffirmed the value of coming together not only to strategize, but also to support one another in sustaining long-term activism.

Key Objectives of the Session

The second R&R convening focused on several key goals:

  • Sharing country-level experiences and drawing lessons to strengthen collective commitments toward sustainable feminist movements.

  • Enhancing women’s leadership to build stronger, coordinated, and resilient feminist organizing.

  • Identifying opportunities for collaborative advocacy and joint feminist action to prevent violence against women.

  • Creating a safe and supportive space for participants to reflect, heal, and release emotional fatigue and stress associated with feminist activism.

Centering Self-Care as a Movement Priority

A unique and deeply meaningful aspect of the R&R agenda was its emphasis on self-care and emotional wellbeing. Feminist activism, particularly in the field of VAW prevention, often comes with significant emotional labor and burnout.

By intentionally creating space for healing, rest, and renewal, the session highlighted that self-care is not a luxury it is a necessary part of sustaining feminist leadership and long-term movement work.

Looking Ahead

The Re-Think and Re-Energize session reinforced the importance of solidarity, collective care, and shared feminist commitment. As the Prevention Network continues to strengthen connections across countries and movements, this convening stands as a reminder that preventing violence against women requires not only action, but also support, resilience, and community.
